I have a strange attraction towards wearing safety pins as accessories. They are rarely seen on the outside of an outfit and can be an interesting addition to any look. I created three insanely easy DIY’s to make your own safety pin jewelry.
A safety pin could be used as a brooch all on its own, but adding charms really gives you the opportunity to customize it. The skull and crossbones one is my favorite. Isn’t it cute? To make your own charm brooch, loop the charm’s ring through the open needle (as seen on the right) and pin to the article of clothing of your choice.
You may remember a variation of this necklace in my last post. A plain, thin necklace chain is needed for this DIY. As little or as many safety pins as you want can be added. String the pins through the chain (two ways to do so shown below) until satisfied with the result. You could go for understated minimalism with a single pin or even a messy look with many pins varying in size.
The trick to making this unusual bracelet is in how the pins are linked together. Thread the needle of a pin through the clasp of another and fasten it. Continue to link pins together until you have a chain large enough to fit comfortably around your wrist. Leave the needle of the last pin open.
To fasten the chain onto your wrist, thread the needle of the last pin through the loop of the first pin (as shown below) and secure the needle.
Which one would you rather wear? Have a nice one! Until next time,
